"I'm stuck." "I don't know what to do." "Which one should I pick?" Do these phrases sound familiar? Perhaps like me you have been as they say, 'stuck between a rock and a big sheep' before! In your face is a dilemma that needs knowledge and a brilliant solution. Your thinking if MacGyver were there he could fix it with his pocket knife and Duct Tape. But MacGyver is not there, and you don't know what to do. So after thinking and worrying for days you just go for it, you make a choice, pick an answer, and hope it works. Then things get messy. You know it doesn't have to be that way.
Knowledge is great, but to God knowledge is only the beginning. It is a stepping stone to something greater. Wisdom. Wisdom is when you combine knowledge, truth, discernment and understanding. Wisdom is a powerful commodity. Thousand of years ago God offered one man, King Solomon, anything he asked for. Solomon picked Wisdom. (I Kings 3) What would you have picked?
I long for wisdom. I need it in my heart like blood through my veins. Too many times have my plans failed for lack of wisdom. Too many times have I sought to do things my way and denied wisdom. It seems like every year I am faced with big choices, decisions and problems. Instead of trying to fix them myself I am learning only the wisdom of God will work. Here is the good news, God promises us that if we seek wisdom with passion He will give it to us.
"My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight, and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the know-ledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." (Prov. 2:1-6)
Stop trying to fix things on your own. Don't try and come up with smart solutions that only turn into brilliant blunders. Seek out the Wisdom of God and trust in it. If you call out for wisdom and store up God's word in your heart you can live wisely. There is peace and hope in the wisdom of God.
