Ignorance is No Excuse
"If we don't struggle with the Word of God it is only because we are so ignorant of it. Ignorance of Scripture is pervasive in our culture. Why? The primary reason is that the subject is ignored. We ignore the Bible. We don't want to think about God. We want to banish him from intruding, particularly when he makes a claim on our lives and impulses. In my natural self it is easier if there are no ultimate realities in a revealed word from God. I prefer that such a revelation be a myth because I want to be free of its obligation. I have a conflict over the ultimate issue of authority. If I excuse personal autonomy, I am a law unto myself. I can do anything I want because I want.
If that is where we are, we had better hope that there is no God and no law or that God is dumb and deaf and blind.
But don't bet on it.
What does Jesus say about the Bible?
Critics have never found legitimate reason to challenge most of Jesus' own comments about the integrity of Scripture. Passages in which Jesus declares that the historical person of Jesus of Nazareth made such statements as the following:
Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.
Luke 24:44
The Scripture cannot be broken.
John 10:35
You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
John 5:39-40"--excerpt from Running the Race: A Graduate's Guide to Life by R.C. Sproul. As you might have noticed Josh did not write this and that is because he is away in Mexico. Pray for him and the team (I don't think we can say that enough:)).
