"Deeply immersed in meditation during a church service, Italian poet Dante Alighieri failed to kneel at the appropriate moment. His enemies hurried to the bishop and demanded that Dante be punished for his sacrilege. Dante defended himself by saying, "If those who accuse me had had their eyes and minds on God, as I had, they too would have failed to notice events around them, and they most certainly would not have noticed what I was doing."
Everyone has a preferred way to worship, but no one has it all figured out. When seeking to define worship we often fall short of an adequate explanation. There is something unique about worship that offers the opportunity for individual expression. Despite the varied ways in which we worship the object must remain consistent. God is our only object worthy of worship.
The secret behind our arguments and opinions of how to worship is a realization that we struggle to truly worship with purity and authenticity.
"True biblical worship so satisfies our total personality that we don't have to shop around for man-made substitutes." - Warren Wiersbe
We spend the majority of our day satisfying ourselves with everything but God. We take our eyes off of Him who is eternal to satisfy ourselves with what is temporary. What have you been satisfying yourself with this week? Have you set your eyes on the glory of Jesus in awe and thanksgiving?
We often speak of worship as a lifestyle, but it's so much deeper than our outward actions. Worship is about the position of our heart. When the position of your heart is deeply and completely satisfied in God alone the way you live becomes worship.
What do you give 100% of yourself to? Next time you desire to worship God, or you find yourself at church and worship music is being played, think about God as being so deeply satisfying that no other substitute will due. Find your complete contentment and satisfaction in Him because He is good, and because He is worthy.- Josh
