"The Great God values not the service of men, if the heart be not in it; The Lord sees and judges the heart; he has no regard to outward forms of worship, if there be no inward adoration, if no devout affection be employed therein. It is therefore a matter of infinite importance, to have the whole heart engaged steadfastly for God." - Issac Watts

The is a great emphasis placed on truth in scripture. We must worship God for who He is not who we think He is. God must be worshiped according to truth. In fact it would be difficult to worship or value something you know little about. The knowledge of God provides an accurate platform for worship.

Issac Watts brings us into check with his words though. Truth is great but what about our hearts? It is entirely possible to know the right thing to do and even do the right thing but without enjoyment. My normal routine for washing dishes is to do it but skip the enjoyment part. This is not what God seeks in our worship. He seeks that our whole heart, justified by Christ, cleansed by confession, and in full adoration of God, is employed in joyful expression.

We were created with the glorious opportunity to enjoy God. We are given permission through Christ to share in His goodness and glory as His sons and daughters. Worship is at it's fullest when our heart and mind are fully engaged in proclaiming and enjoying the glory of God.

Worship must not be approached as a task or even something we have earned. Even through our confession of sin or steadfast heart we have not earned worship. Worship is a gift by the grace of Christ to enjoy a God that we were once enemies of by sin. Through the righteousness of Christ alone can we boldly step up to the presence of God and worship.

With your heart and mind fully engaged in worship you will find the greatest joy.
