What is your spiritual gift? Watch this video below to get the ball rollin...
A spiritual gift is not something you can pick. It isn't something you practice at. Paul explains in 1st Corinthians chapter 12 and in Ephesians 4 that spiritual gifts come from God through His Holy Spirit. It is the same Holy Spirit that gives each believer in Christ their gift. Your spiritual gift is not based on your talents and abilities, even though you may be pretty awesome at dodgeball.
Here is a list of gifts Paul mentions: Prophecy, Encouragement, Wisdom, Knowledge, Discernment, Evangelism, Faith, Pastoring, Teaching, Leadership, Administration, Giving, Mercy, Helps. There are others gifts mentioned in scripture as sign gifts that were used in the early church. Looking at this list might not help you focus in on what you think your spiritual gift is. Here are some tips to finding out your spiritual gift.
Take a poll. Ask your family and friends what they think. They see you in action all the time, they know the good and the bad that is you. Their outside looking in perspective can help you think more objectively.
Get your hands dirty. Find ways to serve your church and meet any available needs. Try many things but pay attention to the things you are most passionate about, excited about, and find joy doing.
Pray and study scripture. There is no better way to hear the voice of God and know His will for your life than to seek Him through prayer and bible study. Read I Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4, and Romans 12. These passages will help you understand more about what Spiritual Gifts are. Then pray and ask God to reveal to you how He has chosen to gift you.
Why is it important to seek out your spiritual gift and use it? God wants to use you to build up other believers around you and to glorify Him with everything you do. Your spiritual gift is the most fulfilling and joyful way for you to serve, love, and glorify God. That's why. :)
